Methodology · How our data works

How our data actually works

Ranklogs combines daily rank tracking, industry-standard keyword and backlink data, live AI-answer checks, and our own scoring on top — and we are transparent about what is measured, what is estimated, and what is still emerging. We never fabricate a number to look good.

Our data principles

Honest data, plainly explained

Three rules shape every number you see in Ranklogs.

We never fake a number

Every metric is either measured or clearly labelled as an estimate. We never invent a figure to make a dashboard look better.

Conclusions first

We lead with what changed and what to do next, then show the evidence behind it — so you act on insight, not raw rows.

Confidence, not false precision

Where a number is an estimate, we say so and attach a confidence level — rather than a falsely exact figure we can’t stand behind.

Sources

Where your data comes from

Different signals come from different places. Here is each one, plainly.

Rank tracking

Daily, pixel-accurate positions across search engines, locations and devices, with current vs previous position. Rank tracking is included on every plan and is never counted as a research lookup.

Keyword & SERP data

Search volumes, difficulty and CPC are estimates, refreshed on a regular schedule and sourced from established, industry-standard data providers. Treat them as a guide to relative opportunity — they shift as real demand changes, so we never present them as exact truth.

Site audits

We crawl your own site directly — content, technical SEO and AI-readiness — then rank every issue by business impact and pair it with the exact fix and affected pages.

Backlinks

Your backlink profile is mapped from established data partners and refreshed over time, with new and lost links tracked so drops surface early.

AI search visibility

For each prompt you track, we check the major AI assistants and record whether your brand is cited (a linked source), mentioned (named without a link) or absent — across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google’s AI Overviews and Perplexity. Because answers vary by phrasing, region and time, every result carries a calibrated confidence level. This is an emerging field and we will not overstate it.

Our own analysis

What we build on top

Raw data is the starting point, not the product. Ranklogs computes its own signals on top of it — this is the analysis you are actually paying for, not a data resale.

Keyword Score

Our own 0–100 read of how well the page behind each keyword is set up to rank, with a ranked list of fixes. Computed by Ranklogs — not pulled from a third party.

Impact-ranked audit

We don’t just list errors. We order every issue by what it costs the business — lost traffic, crawl budget, conversions — and spell out the fix.

AI-readiness & opportunity scores

A per-page read of how citable your content is to AI, plus keyword-opportunity and competitor “where to attack” scores that weigh demand, difficulty and intent — not volume alone.

What to trust, and how much

Exact, estimated and emerging

Exact

Your rankings as we measure them, your crawled site audit, and the new/lost links we detect. Directly observed.

Estimated

Search volume, keyword difficulty and CPC. Best-available industry estimates — useful for relative comparison, not exact counts.

Emerging

AI search visibility. Real and growing, measured with a calibrated confidence level rather than a precise percentage we can’t back.

FAQ

Data methodology questions

Where does Ranklogs' data come from?

It depends on the signal. Rankings come from our own daily checks; keyword volumes, difficulty and backlink data come from established, industry-standard data providers; site audits come from crawling your own site directly; and AI search visibility comes from checking the major AI assistants for the prompts you track.

How fresh is the data?

Rankings refresh daily. Keyword and backlink data refresh on a regular schedule. AI search visibility is checked for your tracked prompts and kept as a history so you can see trends. Site audits reflect your latest crawl, which you can re-run any time.

Why are some numbers estimates?

Search volume, difficulty and CPC are not published exactly by search engines — every SEO tool estimates them from sampled data, and they shift as demand changes. We treat them as a guide to relative opportunity and label them as estimates rather than presenting a falsely exact figure.

Do you ever make up numbers?

No. We never fabricate a metric to look good. Where something is an estimate or an emerging measurement, we say so and attach a confidence level instead of inventing precision we cannot stand behind.

What does Ranklogs compute itself?

The analysis on top of the raw data: the per-keyword Keyword Score and its ranked fixes, the impact-ranked audit, the per-page AI-readiness score, and the keyword-opportunity and competitor scores. That computed layer is the product — not a resale of third-party data.
